  1. Bill Towson here. As an organizer and member of the steering committee, I think that our City Council has made a grave mistake. First of all, I can afford the service, BUT, I do not want IT shoved down my throat.
I would think that many, many residents either do not need this service and some can not afford it.
We already have too many "blue barrels" on our curbs and in front of residences which is illegal.
    Wake up City Representatives!!!
I would hope that we would be sucessfull in having this ill conceived ordinance recalled.

  2. Mandatory garbage service in and of itself is not a bad thing at all. Ranks right up there with mandatory sewerage service in my opinion. But MY primary objection to this is the removal of our freedom to choose who and how we remove our trash from our property that meets the health concerns of our fellow citizens and MY budget! Having the city dictate that only ONE company can provide the service ~ use that company or not but you are going to pay for it anyway under penalty of money and perhaps even jail time or even liens against your property ~ is the tipping point. The lesser well off suddenly being compelled with no consideration into what may be budget busting services that they had very well and concientiously performed for many years. this "attack of the garbage cans" is more than egregious!

  3. The prime objective behind this assault on the citizenry of Jefferson City was to impose recycling! Yet there is not the first thing in the contract with allied waste that compels them to recycle the first thing! They may do so if they have some sort of economic incentive, to wit: "...materials as the Contractor may choose are economically viable to extract from solid waste for reuse in the same or another form."
And note their definition of "solid waste" in their contract includes anything in either of the bins they have provided. So that leads to other questions! MANY MORE Questions than these people are prepared to answer!
